Mr Obama, wearing a baseball cap, sunglasses and sandals, arrived at the 'Bunch of Grapes' bookstore in central Vineyard Haven aboard an SUV along with daughters Malia, 12, and Sasha, 9. Their arrival created a stir among passersby, who gathered on the narrow sidewalk to catch a glimpse of the famous visitor. About 20 minutes later, Mr Obama and the girls left the shop carrying two white bags. They smiled and waved briefly at onlookers behind police lines before climbing into their car and driving off. The White House said Mr Obama picked up a copy of Freedom, National Book Award winner Jonathan Franzen's latest novel. The bookstore owner said Mr Obama got a free copy of the soon-to-be-released book. -- AFP This entry passed through the Full-Text RSS service — if this is your content and you're reading it on someone else's site, please read our FAQ page at fivefilters.org/content-only/faq.php |
