Break out the sunglasses and get outside today — skies will be sunny and temperatures will climb to the low 70s again in Las Vegas.

High pressure will bring dry conditions and temperatures running several degrees above normal to the area through Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

Cooler conditions and a chance of showers will move in over the weekend as an area of low pressure has an impact on the western states over the weekend and into early next week, the weather service said.

At 4:56 a.m. today, the temperature at McCarran International Airport was 53 degrees. The normal low for today's date is 44 degrees. The record low was 24 degrees, set in 1938.

Around the valley just before 5 a.m., temperatures were 51 degrees at North Las Vegas Airport, 47 degrees at Nellis Air Force Base and 50 degrees at Henderson Executive Airport.

Temperatures in the valley were to rise today to 63 degrees by 9 a.m., to 69 degrees by noon and reach a high of 72 degrees by 2 p.m., forecasters said. The normal high for today's date is 65 degrees and the record high was 78 degrees, set in 1977, 1949 and 1940.

Temperatures are expected to drop to 64 degrees by 6 p.m., to 58 degrees by 9 p.m. and to 55 degrees by midnight, forecasters said.

Wednesday's morning low will be 49 degrees and Wednesday's high will climb to 68 degrees, they said.
