Man held in heist of sunglasses Posted: 14 Dec 2010 10:23 PM PST Police are holding a man they say stole an estimated $12,000 in sunglasses from a south Santa Fe business. And investigators said they are trying to determine if he might be connected to other recent commercial burglaries. Santa Fe County jail records show Adrian E. Puentes, 20, 12 Magpie Lane, is being held without bond on charges of commercial burglary, felony larceny over $2,500 and two counts of conspiracy after he was booked at 12:12 p.m. Tuesday. Santa Fe Deputy Police Chief Abram Anaya said regional dispatchers received a burglary-alarm call at 11:22 p.m. Monday from Sunglass Hut in the Santa Fe Outlet Stores, 8380 Cerrillos Road. When officers arrived at the scene, according to Anaya, they saw a man trying to flee the store. After a short foot pursuit, the man was caught and police say he had sunglasses from the business. Investigators said there is evidence the burglar got into the store through heating and cooling ventilation ducts, a mode of entry in numerous commercial burglaries over the past few months. A police report filed Sunday indicates a burglar robbed El Paisano market, 3140 Cerrillos Road, at 12:02 a.m. Sunday by entering through ductwork. In that burglary, one in which the business owner reported having video surveillance of the heist, the suspect stole more than $7,000 cash and did more than $1,000 damage to a cash register. "We can't tie him to the El Paisano burglary right now," Anaya said Tuesday night, but he noted the methods used are "very similar to other investigations we have." Carlos André, owner of El Paisano, a store that sells produce, meat, fresh tortillas and bread, and has a small kitchen/restaurant area, said his business has been burglarized 11 times since he opened it in 1996. The last four times the store was hit, André said, access was gained through the roof. Puentes was expected to be arraigned today. Sandra Baltazar Martínez contributed to this article.
