Triple-digit heat heading to Las Vegas for weekend Posted: 17 Sep 2010 05:44 AM PDT Friday, Sept. 17, 2010 | 5:35 a.m. Ice up the drinks, grab some sunglasses and head for the pool — sunny skies and 100-degree heat is heading to Las Vegas for the weekend. A dry southwest flow of air will continue to move over the region, bringing clear skies and above-normal temperatures through Sunday, according to the National Weather Service. A low pressure system will move into the Pacific Northwest on Sunday, bringing locally breezy conditions to the southern Great Basin and Mohave Desert, the weather service said. That system will move across Nevada on Monday, resulting in temperatures dropping to near-normal levels, with highs in the low to mid 90s, for the first part of next week, forecasters sadi. At 4:56 a.m. today, the temperature at McCarran International Airport was 72 degrees. The normal low for today's date is 68 degrees. The record low was 53 degrees, set in 1941. Around the valley just before 5 a.m., temperatures were 68 degrees at North Las Vegas Airport, 63 degrees at Nellis Air Force Base and 68 degrees at Henderson Executive Airport. Temperatures in the valley were to rise today to 84 degrees by 9 a.m., to 95 degrees by noon and reach a high of 101 degrees by 4 p.m., forecasters said. The normal high for today's date is 93 degrees and the record high was 108 degrees, set in 1937. Temperatures are expected to drop to 99 degrees by 6 p.m., to 89 degrees by 9 p.m. and to 81 degrees by midnight, forecasters said. Saturday's morning low will be 73 degrees and Saturday's high will climb to 100 degrees, they said.
